Access to the Internet:
The On-line Learner must have access to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and be able to send and receive files to instructor in an acceptable format required by the faculty. The student must use either Netscape 4.x or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or higher to participate in the class. NOTE:AOL can be used to access the Internet but the browse function will have problems. Using the AOL Browser is not recommended, as various WebCT functions will not work properly.You will need to use the Netscape or Internet Explorer browser along with your AOL connection in order to participate in AASU classes.WebTV is NOT compatible with WebCT.
Software:

The On-line Learner will be required to have access to the campus standard suite of software.Currently that suite of software is Microsoft Office Professional with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Office 97 or higher) .

If you plan to use other software, you need to clear this with your instructor PRIOR to the beginning of the course.

Hardware:
The On-line Learner must have access to computer hardware that will accommodate all of the above software and allow them to access the internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and/or Netscape 4.0 or higher.
General Knowledge:

A basic understanding of computers and online environments is required. Basic skills required for the online learning environment include:

  • ability to use a web browser to locate web sites and other information
  • ability to send and receive email with attachments
  • ability to use a word processor and other software in order to complete assignments.

IMPORTANT

It is the responsibility of the On-line Learner to maintain access to the above hardware, software, and level of communication while enrolled in a distance learning course. Technology problems are not academic problems and are the responsibility of the student.
